who am I?

A few things about me:  I majored in English but if I had it to do over, I’d pick paleontology and spend my life digging up dead things. If Neil deGrasse Tyson ran for president, I would vote for him, especially if Jane Goodall was his running mate.  I’m addicted to monster movies, science fiction, thrift stores, collecting rocks and fossils, writing, and any deserted sandy place at the edge of a ocean. I consume way too much coffee, recently became a vegetarian, and tend to spend inordinate amounts of time outdoors chasing bugs and birds with my camera.

First camera.

First camera.

I’ve spent the last 12 years as a stay-at-home other mom to my partner’s three sons and enjoy any chance to hyperbolize about the effort it’s taken to raise them. Number one son is grown, but comes nearly every weekend to cut up with his little brothers. Our two younger boys are lovely, neurologically atypical teenagers. Middle son is autistic and the youngest has obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) so their paths through the world have not always been easy, but their differences have helped to make them the funny-smart-kind young men they are. My partner in life and child-rearing is a research scientist who supports us all (and my blogging habit) single-handedly.

Pretty coffee.

Pretty coffee.

  4. Totally love your blog! I too am the stay-at-home partner, mostly because my partner does international aid work that takes us to far away places. We don’t have any children, but DO have two dogs who think they are human.

At any rate, thanks so much for stopping my and subscribing to my blog this morning. I really look forward to following yours, as well.

  6. Hello! Thanks for following my blog. I am glad you enjoyed my posts. Your life sounds pretty hectic but interesting nonetheless. How long have you and your partner been together, if I might ask?

    • We dated for a year in 1986 then went our separate ways (but kept in touch). We’ve been together for 12 years now. Thanks for asking.

    • Thanks, Wendy. I gave in this morning and made one for today, and so far I have done nothing on it. It’s compulsive.

I didn’t understand your first sentence at first, then I read partner. Then it all made sense. 🙂 I wish you every happiness. Hopefully I will be able to read on this blog very soon your reaction to a nationwide legalization of gay marriage. 🙂 As the future President, I hope I don’t have to deal with this issue when I get to the White House. I hope America has woken up before then.
